I swore I wouldn’t do this again, but here we are

Reclaiming my time.

In partnership with

Hey there,

A few weeks ago, I challenged myself to start waking up at 5 a.m. For months, I was up at 7 a.m. but felt like I was constantly playing catch-up, chasing the day, or feeling rushed. I had to face the truth: the only way to regain control of my time was to wake up earlier. There was no way around it.

I know what you're thinking, friend... "5 a.m., though?!" 😳

Trust me, I get it, and I hesitated at first. I’m no stranger to early mornings; for most of my TV news career, I woke up as early as 2 a.m. to report and anchor. When I left that world, I swore those early wake-up calls were behind me. But this time around, it's different. And guess what? It's been a complete game-changer, personally and professionally.

Waking up earlier has given me so much more than just a head start on the day. I feel more in control, my mind is clearer, and I've even managed to squeeze in some "me time" before all the action begins. Journaling for 10 minutes every morning has seriously reduced my stress levels. It's like diving into the day with a little victory.

Starting my day with intention also includes softly playing jazz and sipping a delicious cup of coffee—usually the latest from my Trade subscription, which sends a new brand every few weeks. I add a spoonful of Apothekary’s Mind Over Matter powder for focus, fuel, and cognitive function.

One key part of my new routine is getting fully dressed for the day before leaving my room. This small act signals to my brain that it's time to shift from "rest mode" to "work mode." I'm also trying to be more mindful about morning exercise and a healthy breakfast to keep my energy up throughout the day.

A few more hacks that have made my mornings smoother:

  • Prep the night before: Planning my day (and even picking out my outfit!) the night before cuts decision fatigue and sets a calm tone for the morning.

  • Wind down early: Around 8 p.m., it's lights out (literally) and screens off. This helps my body get ready for rest.

  • Create a nighttime routine you love: Whether it's skincare, reading, or listening to a podcast, building a relaxing routine makes bedtime something for me to look forward to.

  • Find an accountability partner: My husband Robert started waking up at 5:30 a.m. to work out, and having him up with me has been a huge motivator. My friends Mona and Samantha are joining the #5amclub, too!

Another benefit of waking up before the sun? I finally have time for professional development. I spend 30 minutes each day working toward long-term goals, whether it's a Udemy or Skillshare course on branding, ChatGPT, or photography. It's been amazing for my growth and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day.

But the best part about all of this is more quality time with my two-year-old daughter, Isabella. Honestly, that makes it all worthwhile. ❤️
