What giving back means to me this year

Turning tradition into impact.

Hi friend,

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday with good rest and good company. Over here, it was intimate and lowkey…just Robert, Bella and me. I got strep throat and was sick the entire time we were in Chicago with his family. Not ideal! But it forced me to rest, and I liked that after such a hectic year. It was nice to unplug a bit and end things on a chill note.

Now, I'm feeling refreshed and excited, ready to tackle all things Pivot Playbook! If 2024 was any indication of what's ahead, it's going to be a great, albeit super busy year—but the holiday celebrations aren't quite over yet.

Monday, Jan. 6 is Three Kings Day, also known as Epiphany, and it's a special day that holds a lot of meaning for me. It's a day that's always been about compassion, empathy, and the importance of giving back to those less fortunate.

Three Kings Day is a Christian holiday that commemorates the visit of the Three Wise Men (aka the OG gift-givers 🎁) to baby Jesus. It's celebrated in many countries around the world—like Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic—as a time for reflection, for remembering the journey of the Three Wise Men and the significance of their gifts.

And it's not just a quiet family affair; there are tons of community gatherings, street parties, parades, and performances. Some families go to church, others exchange gifts, but at its core, Three Kings Day is about being with your people and celebrating the spirit of generosity.

This year, I'm especially excited to be celebrating Three Kings Day by giving back to a cause that's deep in my heart. As you know, I recently launched a campaign to support the beautiful, resilient girls at Colegio Hogar Infantil Corazón de Jesús, a children's home in the DR (you can read all about my connection to this incredible place right here). We blew past our original goal, and, by popular demand, created a second fundraiser to bring the girls some joy and hope for the holiday.

I grew up seeing firsthand the awesome work that the nuns do there. I learned that one of them recently took on an outside job to help fill some gaps in resources for the girls. They all care and sacrifice so much, and they deserve extra support.

And friend…these young girls are so strong, smart, and full of dreams that need to be nurtured. So, we’ll be gifting them with educational toys, books, games, and natural hair care products (something they specifically requested!) to give them confidence and pride in who they are, despite the challenges they face.

I believe that every child deserves to feel comforted and loved-on, especially during the holidays. When you donate to this campaign, you'll help spread warmth and cheer to these deserving girls. And don’t stress about the dollar amount, because even a small contribution can make a huge difference!

Thank you for your generosity and for joining me in celebrating Three Kings Day.

Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year! 🎉
