TikTok’s back and so are we

Awf the Record season 2 is coming.

Hey friend,

Cue the airhorns: Awf the Record is back for season 2! 🎉 This past weekend, I hopped on a plane to NYC to chat with some amazing people for the upcoming episodes. We've got deep dive sessions just with Mona (get ready for more girl talk) plus some interviews with special guests who all know a thing or two about navigating life’s unexpected plot twists.

To give you a taste: we had a great conversation with TV host Kamie Crawford, who explains why life is basically one giant Catfish episode (and why she left the show, much to the surprise of fans!). We even talked to a divorce attorney about why you should marry for money and the telltale signs that a split is in your future. Wild, right? I can’t wait for you to watch/listen.

Season 1 blew us away—can you believe we hit 100,000 downloads and over 60,000 followers across all platforms? The excitement and feedback have been incredible. And while each episode is wonderful, I think our sex talk with Shan Boodram was the perfect blend of informative, vulnerable, and hilarious. Our viewers seemed to agree! We're eager to see which others you've enjoyed the most. (Hint, hint: this will definitely shape our explorations in the new season 😉).

So, do you prefer guest chats or those cozy, no-filter talks between Mona and me? And which topics really speak to you? Our goal is to bring up the kind of things you might banter about in your group chats but add that journalistic touch—keeping it factual, nuanced, and always entertaining. Jump in our group chat at +1 (917) 810-3553 and let us know your thoughts.

Now, on to something that shook the internet this week: the almost-TikTok-shutdown! 😱 I have to admit, as a user, I realized just how much I treasure the mix of info and fun the platform brings.

The downtime sparked some vital conversations about the fragility of digital platforms. Creators with massive followings saw their audiences disappear in a blink. It's a clear reminder of the dangers of relying too heavily on one platform—advice that's relevant for everyone, not just content creators.

This topic is a major focus in my upcoming Pivot Playbook; how to make a shift, yes, but also ensuring you’re on solid footing when you do. Diversifying isn't just for investments, honey! It's about building a strong foundation for your brand, your business, or your overall well-being. Basically, don't put all your eggs in one basket (especially when that basket is controlled by an algorithm).

Okay, so you're probably wondering how I actually do the whole diversification thing. Let's be real, juggling platforms can feel like a circus act sometimes. 🎪 Here's my approach:

  • Consistent content across multiple platforms: I think of myself as a chameleon, adapting my message to fit different environments (but always staying true to myself, of course!). For instance, a quick video on my TikTok might capture a funny or thought-provoking moment that resonates with my audience. Then, I take that snippet and expand it into a full-blown discussion on Awf the Record. This not only gives you more juicy content but also provides different entry points for different folks, whether you're a visual learner or more of an audiophile.

  • Investing early in a newsletter and podcast: I knew from the jump that I wanted to build a deeper connection with you guys, and that's why I invested early in both a newsletter and a podcast. My newsletter is like our little secret club, where I spill the tea ☕️ and give you a behind-the-scenes look at my world. And the podcast is where we get to have those real, raw, and sometimes slightly awkward conversations that make you feel like you're right there in the room with us. Each platform has its own vibe, catering to various tastes and preferences, which helps me reach a wider audience.

  • Cultivating new audiences and keeping my OG followers happy: Keeping my current followers happy while also bringing in new ones takes some serious strategy. I'm all about giving my longtime supporters the content they love, but I'm also checking out new trends and topics that could attract a wider audience. This way, I can grow my followers without losing the OG crew who've been with me since day one.

Are you diversifying your social media presence? Which platforms and formats are you riding out until the end?

I’ll catch you next week. In the meantime, big thanks to everyone who's joined the waitlist for The Pivot Playbook! The support is everything, and I can't wait to dive deeper with you. Haven't joined yet? Click here to hop on the list.

More news you can use

  • If that app had shut down for real, one of the creators I would have missed most is @hellotefi. She's kind of like TikTok's big sister—super relatable and open about her life. She gives real, down-to-earth relationship advice and talks about all the trending pop culture stuff, too. Give her a follow!

  • Yes, I’m still keeping up with my New Year’s resolution to take one Pilates class every week. In fact, I’m going twice a week now! 😊 As for the #5amclub? It’s more of a #6amclub at the moment (the holidays threw me off).

  • A big thank you to those who responded to my previous newsletter about my fitness goals, and those who offered their expertise and resources for the girls at the children's home!

  • I’ve gotten questions about some of the art in our home, and I’m happy to share my sources: here is the green abstract piece, and here’s the photograph by DeMarcus Allen.
