Deck the halls, but don’t wreck yourself

Spreading cheer and dodging stress.

Hey friend,

First things first, I want to send a HUGE thank you for all the love and support you showed for last week's newsletter, and the Pivot Playbook! Reading your stories really tugged at my heart. ❤️ It means the world to me that my experiences can resonate with you and maybe even give you that extra push to make your own pivot.

Your responses reminded me that we're all in this together, and that even when things feel scary or uncertain (as they so often do), we have the power to create the lives we dream of.  Whether you're making a career change, pursuing a passion project, or simply navigating the ups and downs of everyday life, know that you're not alone.

Now, let's talk about something else that's near and dear to my heart: the holidays! I don't know about you, but I'm feeling all the festive vibes this year. It could be the magic of being back in DC, or maybe it's the excitement of seeing the holidays through Bella's eyes. One of the things I'm most looking forward to is taking her to A Magical Cirque Christmas at the National Theatre. I can’t wait to see her reaction to all the stunts.

I'm also embracing the challenge of decorating a smaller space. We've gone for a cozy, minimalist vibe with warm metallics and natural elements. I especially love the way the light hits our tree by the window.

Overall, I'm ready to soak up the holiday spirit in the city, finalize my gift shopping, and maybe sneak in a little self-care while I'm at it! 😉 Speaking of gifts...I've put together a few ideas for your man, your bestie, your sister, your mother-in-law, or your mini-me.

  • For the guy in your life: Scent is very personal, so it’s a great gift for someone you know and love. I’m obsessed with the way this cologne smells on Robert; it's masculine but not overpowering.

  • For your BFF that’s like a sister: A dainty chain bracelet that looks great with anything.

  • For your sister that’s like a BFF: This Foreo facial gadget, paired with a vitamin-packed cleanser. She’s gonna glow.

  • For the mother-in-law: A cozy, sophisticated cashmere robe for these colder months.

  • For the little one: Fun activity kits that will expand their horizons (and keep them occupied!).

And because 'tis the season of giving (and receiving!), here are a few things that are on my wishlist this year, for anyone who might be reading this and, you know, need a hint:

  • ☕️ My coffee game is pretty strong, but this espresso machine is just what I need to take things to the next level.

  • 🧥 I want to throw this coat on over everything

  • 🕯️ I love a good candle this time of year, especially one that supports an amazing Black-owned business!

Even though I’m newly in my Martha Stewart bag, this time of year can be especially hectic. I'm all about finding those moments of peace and self-care between the shopping, the decorating, the cooking, and the endless to-do lists. Sometimes mama needs a time out, so I’m sharing my tips for staying sane amidst the holiday chaos:

My go-to stress-buster is having a (slightly splurgy) nighttime routine to unwind from a day of Christmas shopping, interacting with people, and just being out in the cold. A moisturizing mask or massage candle can really help you decompress.

I always make time to be alone before and after the madness, and I plan around that time. I even mark it on my calendar as an event; it gives me something to look forward to!

Don't be afraid to make this holiday season a slower one. You don’t have to go to every party or see every relative. I think we assume this time of year means staying busy and having less “you time,” but sometimes the best gift to give yourself is to have fewer commitments.

How are you planning to celebrate the holidays this year? What are your go-to strategies for staying grounded and finding joy around the hustle and bustle? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Wishing you a lot more joy and a lot less stress!

Giving a little love back to our beautiful moms

The true essence of the holiday season isn't in what we receive, but in the joy of giving.
